Drivers in Argentina can be aggressive and it is often easier to drive in central Buenos Aires out of peak rush hours, or simply use the public transport. Much of the city centre is easily walkable and hiring a car really comes into its own when you intend to travel outside of Buenos Aires, with popular destinations including La Plata and Chascomús to the southeast, Lobos to the south, and San Pedro to the northwest. Worth noting, the 'microcentro' area of the city is restricted between the hours of 07:00 to 21:00.
Parking spaces are often available along the streets, and meters, known locally as 'parquimetros', are never far away. The parking meters in Buenos Aires are operated by tokens (fichas), which can be bought at either local kiosks or coin machines. Also available are city car parks (estacionamientos) and parking bays (playas), although spaces quickly fill up.
